PreceptorMD for medical schools: access, privacy and costs

What a school or class coordinator needs to know before approving PreceptorMD: invite codes, what is stored, what is sent for AI processing, and how daily limits keep costs predictable.

29 October 2026

PreceptorMD is built for whole classes, not just individual students. This guide covers the questions schools usually ask before saying yes.

Access is by invitation

Students join with an invite code from their school or class coordinator. Each code is tied to a class and can be limited in how many times it is used. There is no public sign-up. To set up a class, email hello@preceptormd.app for access and pricing.

It works from your lecturers' slides

Answers, questions, flashcards and OSCE stations are generated from the slides students upload, and every fact quotes the slide it came from. Coordinators can share guideline decks with the whole class, such as the Ghana Standard Treatment Guidelines, the Essential Medicines List or Ministry of Health programme guidelines. Those outrank lecture slides on dosing and management, and conflicts are flagged. See How PreceptorMD checks its answers.

What happens to lecture files

  • Lecture files are read on the student's own device and are never uploaded.
  • Only the text of each slide, and a small image for slides that are mostly pictures, is sent for processing.
  • Slide text is stored once per class. A classmate sees a slide's text only by uploading the same slide themselves, or through a guideline deck the coordinator shares.

What is stored, and who sees it

Each student's work is private to them: their decks, questions, flashcards, review history, quiz attempts, study plans and OSCE transcripts. Coordinators see usage counts per student and the items students report as wrong; they do not browse students' private work.

No patient information goes into PreceptorMD. It is a study tool only, and OSCE patients are fictional.

AI processing

Slide text and students' questions are sent to a third-party AI provider to generate answers, questions, cards and stations. Account emails, a welcome note and password resets, are sent by an email service. The full details are on the legal and privacy page.

Costs stay predictable

AI usage has daily limits per student and for the whole class, so a busy exam week cannot run up an open-ended bill. Slides that several students upload are processed only once. Students can also add their own free AI key in Settings and run on their own quota.

Getting started

  1. Email hello@preceptormd.app with your school, class and roughly how many students.
  2. We set up the class and send the coordinator an invite code.
  3. Students sign up with the code, upload their decks and start studying.
