Educational use only

Preceptor is a study tool for medical education. It is not clinical decision support and must never hold patient-identifiable information.

Answers, questions, flashcards and simulated stations are generated from the materials you upload and can contain errors. Confirm anything you intend to act on against your course materials, current guidelines and your supervisors.

Your lecture files

Lecture files are read on your device and are never uploaded. Only the text of each slide, and a small image for slides that are mostly pictures, is sent for processing.

Slide text is stored once per class. A classmate sees a slide's text only by uploading the same slide themselves or through a guideline deck your coordinator shares with everyone.

AI processing

Slide text and your questions are sent to a third-party AI provider to generate answers, questions, cards and stations. If you add your own API key in Settings, that provider's terms apply to your key, and on free tiers the provider may use what is sent to improve its services.

When you choose "Search trusted sources", your question is also sent to the National Library of Medicine's search services (PubMed, NCBI Bookshelf, MedlinePlus) and, if your school configured one, a site-restricted web search. Those answers are labelled as outside your materials.

The 3D atlas shows the open Z-Anatomy model (CC BY-SA 4.0, derived from BodyParts3D and published for the web by hpfrei). When you select a structure, its name is sent to Wikipedia to fetch a short summary (CC BY-SA), which is kept on your device for 30 days; nothing about you is sent. The summary is for orientation only; answers, quizzes and cards still come from your slides.

The walking crowd on the home page is adapted from Skiper UI ("Skiper 39" by Gurvinder Singh, after a CodePen by Szenia Zadvornykh), and its figures are Open Peeps by Pablo Stanley (CC0).

The interactive previews on the home page use sample content written for that page: the questions, answers, patients, structure summaries, slide titles and slide numbers are illustrations, not taken from any school's lectures or from real patients. The anatomy model and picture there are the same Z-Anatomy model (CC BY-SA 4.0) credited above.

Voice is optional. If you tap the microphone, your browser's own speech service (Google on Chrome and Android, Apple on Safari and iPhone) turns what you say into text, and only that text reaches Preceptor; nothing is recorded or stored here. "Listen" uses the voices built into your device.

Your account and data

Access is by invitation from your school. Preceptor stores your email, your decks, your questions and answers, flashcards and review history, quiz attempts, study plans and OSCE transcripts so the app can work for you. Administrators at your school see usage counts per student and the items students report; they do not browse your private notes. A short technical error log (what failed, on which screen, in which browser) is kept for 30 days so problems can be fixed; it never contains your questions or slide text.

You can delete your decks and cards in the app at any time. To delete your account, contact your coordinator or write to kelvinoaksley@gmail.com.

Never enter patient data

Do not upload or type anything that could identify a patient: names, hospital numbers, photographs, dates of birth or clinical notes. The study-tool notice is shown on every screen as a reminder.
